Researchers Have Found Cause of Graying
(EMAILWIRE.COM, May 15, 2013 ) San Francisco, CA -- The graying of hair during one's midlife can cause anxiety and concern for those who have it. Many blame concepts anxiety and stress for the very creation of gray hairs; but now it appears it may be possible to see gray hairs be a thing of the pass. Currently a team of U.K. Researchers are devising a technique that they claim can reverse the very graying process. The breakthrough may be able to put an end to hair dyes as we know them.
According to the FASEB online journal report, people who suffer graying hair develop massive oxidative stress via the hydrogen peroxide in the follicles. The outcome is the promotion of grey hairs.
Researchers now state that given it is the pile-on of the hydrogen peroxide, a cure for the onset and subsequent graying outcome can be created. According to the report, an IVB activated compound known as PC-KUS will be the weapon wielded by researchers to combat the age-old aesthetic affliction.
"To date, it is beyond any doubt that the sudden loss of the inherited skin and localized hair color can affect those individuals in many fundamental ways," Karin U. Schallreuter, M.D., study author from the Institute for Pigmentary Disorders in association with E.M. Arndt the University of Greifswald, Germany, was quoted as saying in a news release. "The improvement of quality of life after total and even partially successful repigmentation has been documented."
In order to test the theoretical treatment, the researchers viewed over 2,400 individuals with vitiligo. Over 2% of which were diagnosed with segmental vitiligo, while 3.2% were diagnosed with both vitiligo and SSV/NSV. Researchers noted that with SSV, when particular nerval distribution, oxidative stress occurred at the same level as NSV. This caused graying of the hair in both cases.
Editor-in-Chief of the FASEB journal, Gerald Weissmann, MD, stated: "While this is exciting news, what's even more exciting is that this also works for vitiligo. This condition, while technically cosmetic, can have serious socio-emotional effects of people. Developing an effective treatment for this condition has the potential to radically improve many people's lives."
