Nutriden - When Pregnant Moms Take Omega-3, Baby Scores Higher On Visual Learning
(EMAILWIRE.COM, January 22, 2015 ) Calgary, AB -- As parents strive to find way to keep their children healthy in a world of junk food, shorter recess periods in school , and the highest rate of childhood obesity ever, Omega 3 supplement company Nutriden is striving to help their children grow to be healthy and strong. Recent studies are showing that Omega 3 fatty acids need to be a part of a healthy diet for kids, even at a young age.
According to the findings reported in the 2004 July/August issue of the journal of Child Development, Omega 3 fatty acids in mom's diet had some affect on the fetal development. Babies born to mothers who had higher blood levels of DHA while pregnant scored better on the attention tests until 6 months of age. The babies then scored better on different tests designed to measure visual learning in older babies at 1 year and 18 months.
A recent Omega 3 marketing analysis completed by Grand View Research, a third party marketing research company, stated that large numbers of infant formulations are being devised by using EPA/DHA as they have significant health benefits. Companies like Nestle and Similac have a significant portfolio of omega 3 enriched infant formulations and have been progressively increasing product lines for this segment in recent years.
Another study on Omega-3 fatty acids and the developing brain involved 70 mothers and infants. The babies were tested for visual learning ability. So, at the ages of 4-, 6-, and 8-months, the babies were shown pictures. The head author of the study, John Colombo, PhD, stated, "We know from past research that when we show babies pictures during the first year of life, as they get older they look less and less. The reason is that they are taking in the information faster as they develop."
Visual learning is simply one childhood developmental milestone that has been studied. The positive outcome of these report can help parents feel confident that having Omega 3 fatty acids as part of their child's diet is a healthy choice. As more and more studies are done on Omega 3 fatty acids and child development, Nutriden is confident that there will continue to be more positive results.
