The idea of Fathers Day first came about in 1909 when Sonora Smart Dodd from Spokane,Washington was at a Mother's Day sermon.Her father, William had raised his six children on his own after Sonora's mother had died in childbirth with their sixth child when Sonora was sixteen. According to the United States Census Bureau the estimated number of fathers across the USA is approximately 70.1 million. However despite the fact that Father's Day is meant to be a time of celebration for these dads, a recent survey commissioned by Harley - Davidson found that out of 1,200 fathers interviewed, not all of them have a great day! Statistics show that :
32% stated that they had been completely forgotten about on Father's Day
57% of them didn't like the gifts they had been given in the past
53% wanted to return the gifts they had been given because they'd received similar gifts repeatedly over the years.

So it seems America that Father's Day might take a little more thought than previously given.
