Your Survival Heirloom Seed Vault May Not Protect Your Seeds!
(EMAILWIRE.COM, November 25, 2013 ) Kansas, Oklahoma -- Question: How can someone know if their Heirloom Seeds will be protected in the container that the manufacturer claims will keep or preserve them for years or decades?
Answer: Ask a reputable expert with years or decades of experience saving and preserving Heirloom Seeds!
Survival-Essentials did just that, and has determined that many Seed Banks (or Seed Vaults) being sold to consumers likely will not provide adequate protection from moisture. Lynn Hall, Manager of Survival-Essentials says... downloadThe TRUTH about Heirloom Seed Storage Containers "Many Survivalists and "Preppers" will someday remove their seeds from storage only to be very disappointed (and angry) to find that they have a can or "Mylar" bag full of seeds that either have a very low germination rate and inadequate viability, or possibly completely dead seeds altogether." The secret to Successfully storing heirloom seeds is all about the container, says Mr. Hall.
According to seed saver expert, Suzanne Ashworth, a simple glass jar with a good, undamaged lid that has a positive seal is about the best container you can use for saving Heirloom seeds long term. Mylar or laminated foil/film bags are good if they are at least 5 or 6 mils in thickness, but most of the ones being sold as seed vaults are usually no more than 3 mils thick. Metal cans are easily compromised at the seal (if there is one) and allow the invasion of moisture. PVC containers are water tight, but NOT air tight.
Survival-Essentials is quickly becoming known as a knowledgeable company that does it's research and development thoroughly before offering Their products to consumers. When all other Seed Bank manufacturers have come and gone, this company will likely be going strong!
